The Chalet School Expansion Project

Chalet School Expansion

Update -  The modular building has arrived on site having been delivered in three huge sections. The children have been fascinated by the large crane which they have been able to watch lifting the modular building from the safety of their classrooms.

As you may be aware, our Published Admission Number (PAN) increased from 57 to 72 pupils from September 2021. As a result, an eighth class was created, Whale class, and they are currently being taught at a temporary satellite provision at Shaw Farm. Following receipt of significant capital funding from Swindon Borough Council, work is now beginning on the installation of a new modular expansion at the main Chalet School site so we can welcome our eighth class back from September 2022.

What works are taking place?

Following an extensive review of the school grounds a preferred site was identified for the new modular building, the area currently occupied by the growing zone next to the Liden Primary Academy Caretaker bungalow. If you have visited the school this week you may have seen the beginning of some initial groundworks including the removal of vegetation, the dismantling of sheds and installation of new fencing.

Please be assured that we will not be losing our much loved and valued school garden where the children benefit from learning horticultural gardening skills, woodland learning skills and connecting with nature which supports their overall well-being. The raised beds and potting shed will be relocated to the area next to the existing modular building at the back of the school.

The new modular building will comprise a classroom, toilets, kitchen, storeroom, lobby and plant room. The building will be built off site and delivered to the school in sections towards the end of June 2022.

When will work begin?

Although preliminary work has already begun, the main groundworks will begin on Monday 6th June and will continue through to the middle of August. During the school holiday between Terms 5 and 6, Modulek, the appointed contractor, will be delivering the site office (which will be situated on the island in the middle of the car park), zoning off several parking spaces to create a compound and installing safety fencing and barriers. Although works will be undertaken during the school day, apart from during drop off and pick up times, we will ensure that noise and disruption is minimised as best we can and that the safety of all site users/visitors is our top priority. Although we hope that you will bear with us whilst the delivery of this exciting expansion takes place, please contact the school office if you have any questions or queries.
